7-Apr Joshua 15-16 2 Thess. 3 Psalms 31-35 Proverbs 7
Josh 15:17-19 (NIV) 17 Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb's brother, took it; so Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him in marriage. 18 One day when she came to Othniel, she urged him to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, "What can I do for you?" 19 She replied, "Do me a special favor. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me also springs of water." So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.
From yesterday's blog, we remember that Caleb pursued his dream for 45 years before finally inheriting it, driving all enemies from the land and receiving what God has promised him through Moses 45 years before. What a wild ride Caleb had. And to think that he did this for his children's children to give them a land of their own! He was a true man of God who worked for future generations. God, please make me a man like Caleb who works for the next generations to come, rather than just enjoying my own at their expense.
As we read today we find that Caleb had significant resources to bless his children. His daughter had received a field from Caleb. And then she received upper and lower springs so she could water that field. ALL of the tools she needed to sow and reap were given to her. She had true wealth, future security, and the ability to multiply and be blessed. Why? Because God's tools were given to her, land, water, and lots of sunshine. All that was needed now was for her and her husband to GET TO WORK! If they planted their field, they would prosper and be most blessed. If they remained lazy, they would starve on the most fertile fields in the land of milk and honey. It all depended upon them. Caleb blessed them with no need to rent land or buy water. They were among men, the most wealthy. Now they had to do their part. This is true inheritance, and Caleb was very wise in how he blessed his children.
You and I MUST learn kingdom lessons from the Word of God.
1. We MUST work for future generations. A good man leaves an inheritance for his children's children. An evil man enjoys his own life at the expense of his children, and a wicked man will castrate and disarm his children in order to make them serve as Eunichs in his kingdom. This is the heritage being left to our sons and daughters today, as wicked politicians and bankers extract 100 years of their future so we can enjoy living in "their debt" today.
2. We must not give an improper inheritance to our children, but must set them up with the tools that allow them to work their inheritance. No work, no eat. No personal application of the tools, no prosperity for the child. Giving a child the right to be lazy is not a kingdom plan. Giving a child the tools so they never have to work or multiply a garden is not God's way. But giving them tools to make them more productive is the plan of God. Then through their creativity and relationship with God, they will multiply and expand their garden far beyond what you could do.
3. Patience is important for all generations to learn. The promise comes early, but the final fulfillment comes later in life if we stay on track and pursue that promise. A good man helps a child to see and project 150 years into the future. This way, the child can take their 70 years, build the future into their children, and progress the vision forward for multiple generations. A good man knows the importance of patience and focus.
4. Nothing can be done on accident. Everything is done ON PURPOSE. This is a policy that must be taught to our children to help them understand Why we serve God, Why we stick to His policies and kingdom principles, and Why we choose certain friends, choose a certain spouse, and choose where we live. Every choice is pre-calculated based on the vision and the core vision statement. Everything is done ON PURPOSE.
