01/15 Reading - Thoughts & Comments DX3
15-Jan Genesis 29-30, Mark 1-2, Psalms 71-75, Proverbs 15
Gen 29:21-25 (NIV) 21 Then Jacob said to Laban, "Give me my wife. My time is completed, and I want to lie with her." 22 So Laban brought together all the people of the place and gave a feast. 23 But when evening came, he took his daughter Leah and gave her to Jacob, and Jacob lay with her. 24 And Laban gave his servant girl Zilpah to his daughter as her maidservant. 25 When morning came, there was Leah! So Jacob said to Laban, "What is this you have done to me? I served you for Rachel, didn't I? Why have you deceived me?"
What comes around, goes around! Jacob deceives his brother and father in order to get the blessing. Years later, Jacob is swindled by his own father in law, and he marries Leah "accidentally" instead of the one he loved, Rachel. So he is conned into serving another seven years under Laban to get the woman he loved. That was a total of fourteen years served.
When you walk in deceit, you shall be deceived. When you hang around those whom you can deceive, there are also other wolves hanging around who will deceive you. I think of the old movie with Steve Martin called, "Dirty, Rotten, Scoundrels" where those guys were professional con artists. In the end of the movie, they had been conned by a cute, innocent, little lady who was the con of all cons. What comes around, goes around! Or in other words, you will reap what you sow, because God cannot be mocked, and everything we do is a seed planted, good or evil.
This is a great lesson to learn for every territory of our lives. Do NOT allow any of your eight territories to deceive, to be deceptive, fraudulent, or dishonest. Fill your life and target goals with light, and refuse to reach your goals through dishonesty, swindling, fraud, or dishonest gain. Build your life on the rock, on truth, and on obedience to what God has given you. Jacob would have been blessed by God, and somehow God would have worked out the blessing to come to him. But he decided to help God out with some deception and fraud upon Isaac and Essau. For that, he would be swindled, hated, and he would pay a price for his actions.
God will lead and direct you in all righteousness, and you will reach your goals without needing fraud, nor deception to get to your target goals. What comes around, goes around! What's on it's way to us today, righteousness, or deception?
