1 Samuel 19:6-10 NIV [6] Saul listened to Jonathan and took this oath: “As surely as the Lord lives, David will not be put to death.” [7] So Jonathan called David and told him the whole conversation. He brought him to Saul, and David was with Saul as before. [8] Once more war broke out, and David went out and fought the Philistines. He struck them with such force that they fled before him. [9] But an evil spirit from the Lord came on Saul as he was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand. While David was playing the lyre, [10] Saul tried to pin him to the wall with his spear, but David eluded him as Saul drove the spear into the wall. That night David made good his escape.

Saul lost his kingdom due to rebellion against God, and David rose up under the hand of God with great successes under his belt.  It was clear that one was rising and the other was going down.  And instead of Saul believing, submitting, and understanding that a regime change was taking effect, Saul fought to establish his son Jonathan as the next king.  He would attempt repeatedly to kill David, but would fail over and over because God's hand was upon the young man.

There were times that the Spirit of God would come upon Saul and he would prophecy.  Then an evil spirit would come upon Saul and he would try to kill David.  He was a man between two spirit worlds, and he could NOT be trusted.

You and I can learn a lesson from this story.  God has called you to seize territory for His kingdom, and you are anointed just as David was.  You are a man/woman after God's own heart because His son Jesus lives and moves in your life.  

You must keep watch for Saul in your life.
1.  Saul is going to lose a kingdom which you are going to inherit.  There will be a loser and a winner.  You must understand that the loser will not go down without a fight.
2.  Saul will be moved by the Lord and will move in and out of his anointing and calling.   But just as quickly as he moves in his anointing, he will then turn and be led by an evil spirit who will cause him to undermine you, your efforts, your calling and destiny. Be very careful!
3.  You simply CANNOT trust a Saul in your life who is losing his kingdom.  He is capable of anything evil, and he will stop at nothing to preserve the past blessings that he walked in.  You will be a direct threat to Saul, and he will feel the need to harm you, remove you, or kill you.

Of course, I am speaking of a Saul spirit, not flesh and blood.  However, this spirit will work through flesh and blood people who are moving in a lifestyle of disobedience and who are offending their calling and election before God.  While they will never lose their calling and election, they will lose the inheritance that comes through obedience to making that calling and election "SURE".  So the Saul spirit will use people to try to distract you, harm or hurt you, violate or offend you, and even to destroy you.

COMPASS GUIDE will help you to stay on track, keep focused, and to filter out all inappropriate and illegitimate relationships who are not walking in line with the vision that God has given you.  Safety from Saul is a serious and important ingredient to walking free and focused in your calling.  Don't allow Sauls to take shots at you, and don't put yourself in danger by hanging out with Saul any more than absolutely necessary.  And if you find yourself intermingled with a Saul who is losing his kingdom, pray for a Jonathan and a Samuel who can stand close to you and help give wisdom, insight and direction.
