18-May 2 Sam. 19-20, Matthew 5-6, Psalms 86-90, Proverbs 18

2 Samuel 19:1-7 (NIV) 1  Joab was told, "The king is weeping and mourning for Absalom." 2  And for the whole army the victory that day was turned into mourning, because on that day the troops heard it said, "The king is grieving for his son." 3  The men stole into the city that day as men steal in who are ashamed when they flee from battle. 4  The king covered his face and cried aloud, "O my son Absalom! O Absalom, my son, my son!" 5  Then Joab went into the house to the king and said, "Today you have humiliated all your men, who have just saved your life and the lives of your sons and daughters and the lives of your wives and concubines. 6  You love those who hate you and hate those who love you. You have made it clear today that the commanders and their men mean nothing to you. I see that you would be pleased if Absalom were alive today and all of us were dead. 7  Now go out and encourage your men. I swear by the LORD that if you don't go out, not a man will be left with you by nightfall. This will be worse for you than all the calamities that have come upon you from your youth till now."

Absalom's political take over of the nation was a short one. Once the freshly "self annointed one" was dead, chosen by the people because he was a slick talker, now the nation of Israel has got alot of clean up and restoration to do.  All of the tribes that had turned against David are now going to have to repent, turn, and come back in humility to Him.  He's still the king, even if they chose another.  God's man remains and the people's man is hanging by his hair, dead in a tree.  And now everyone will be forced to decide who's side he's on.  Those who continue to resist will lose their heads.  Those who come in humility to the throne will be forgiven. Some will lose half of their estates, and their houses will be divided. Why? Because they fell prey to the political demons of division and destruction that Absalom brought into the land.  Now they will pay the price of restoration of the kingdom.

My friends, this human cycle happens over and over in life.  You will see it in church when division hits and an attack comes on leadership.  You see it in the home when the husband and wife are divided or attacked by unthankful, rebellious children.  You see it in our nations as politicians use division to get the people to "self anoint" them as the new leaders.  If you look at your nation today, you will probably recognize that the spirit of Absalom is in charge of the house, and the king has been sent away.  Look at this Old Testament story and you will see how the future will hold for those under the Absalom spirit in government today.

It's important that you and I watch for the Absalom spirit in our kingdom activities.  We cannot allow the Absalom spirit to take hold or to gain any territory in our lives, jobs, businesses, ministries, or in our family.  If this spirit is given any territory at all, he will end up dividing and destroying the unity. And when that destruction comes, there will be alot of work to be done to patch things up AFTER Absalom is removed from the situation.

Remember that Absalom didn't agree with his father.  He was hateful and bitter because of internal family problems.  He killed his brother because the brother had raped his sister. There was alot of internal conflict in King David's house, and Absalom took it all personal.  He grew bitter, it didn't come all at once.  He then started using political positioning to STEAL the hearts away from the king, and to himself.  It all started as anger, but it ended in an agenda.  That agenda was to murder his father, the legal king and God's choice.  He would self appoint the next king, which would be himself.  He would override God and change the course of history through demonic political positioning.  But it all started because Absalom's brother raped his sister, and there was no justice, no discipline, and no action on his father's part.  He basically became a man seeking justice, but through bitterness he became deceived. That deception swayed the entire nation the wrong way.

Do NOT let injustice or inaction infect your children, workers, friends, or those who stand with you in life, vision, and ministry. Be swift to act in justice without partiality. And if you see any of your associates GROWING in hatred, anger, bitterness, resentment - you must act and stop that growth, or you must remove yourself from them in order to protect the kingdom!  These are not options for kings, but they are requirements.  Such are the actions of kings, not priests.  You are both a priest and a king, and today's study brings you to a new responsibility and authority as a king - to bring justice, root out resentment, and rule your household well.

1 Timothy 3:12-13 (NIV) 12  A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well. 13  Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.
