10-May 2 Sam. 3-4, Rev. 11-12, Psalms 46-50, Proverbs 10

2 Samuel 3:1 (NIV) 1 The war between the house of Saul and the house of David lasted a long time. David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.

When the great transition of kingly authority took place in Judah, there was a long, drawn out battle between Saul's household and David's household. The transition was not easy. The old had to give way to the new. The old would not relinquish control, but through time the old grew weaker and the new grew stronger. Finally, the transition would be complete, but with great loss of life, and alot of good men having to give their life's blood for the new kingdom.

When a person gets a wake up call from the Lord, when they become born again, or when God drops a new vision of the future into a person's life, a fresh battle between the old and the new starts to take place. God's fresh revelation, His new life in Christ, and a burning passion to accomplish a task for His kingdom starts a brand new day and great change begins to take place. It's not normally an instant change, but a slow, long drawn out change just like the battle between Saul's household and Davids. The key fact is (yesterday's teaching) that God takes out Saul, the old, and decapitates the old authority, the old power, and the old vision. With the old dead and gone, the new can begin to grown in strength and power.

When you were born again, God dethroned the old you. You were dead in your trespasses and sins. He decapitated the old you, and gave you a brand new life in Christ. That new life begins to take over and the old life begins to get smaller and weaker. It's not all at once and instant. If it were, every born again Christian would be walking in perfection. But we are a work in progress!

Likewise, when a COMPASS GUIDE student becomes filled with a brand new understanding of who he/she is, a brand new life and power begins to appear. When you pull a 25 word core vision statement out of the secret place of Heaven, and you see on paper what God says about you - BAM!! You now have a brand new direction, a new focus, and a new Kingdom light that will forever help to direct your life and keep you on the straight ant narrow path. It doesn't happen all at once. But it happens. Slowly and surely, the new starts creeping into every corner and crevice of your life. The new vision starts seizing your faith, family, finances, vision, goals, and daily living. You start making new decisions and your focus starts honing in like an eagle's focus. The old starts fading away. Old friends, old thoughts, old theories, old practices, and everything old starts dying. Some of the old puts up a fight, but the light of the new kingdom zaps the strength from the old, and that old no longer fits your life, your plans or your future. You become a brand new creature and start walking in a new, kingdom, Heavenly, revelational light which is fueled by daily reading of God's Word, and walking and talking with Him as you humbly fulfill HIS DREAM for your life.

Don't fear change. And don't worry if it seems to be taking time. God understands time, transition, and removal of the old. His Word brings light, and that light destroys the old darkness. Press in, increase the light, focus on your future, and the old will simply drop it's hands in defeat and give way to the new you!

2 Corinthians 5:17-18 (NIV) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:

Revelation 21:1-4 (NIV) 1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
