05/09 Thoughts & Comments By Dr. Daniel Daves
9-May 2 Sam. 1-2, Revelations 9-10, Psalms 41-45, Proverbs 9
2 Samuel 1:2-4 (NIV) 2 On the third day a man arrived from Saul's camp, with his clothes torn and with dust on his head. When he came to David, he fell to the ground to pay him honor. 3 "Where have you come from?" David asked him. He answered, "I have escaped from the Israelite camp." 4 "What happened?" David asked. "Tell me." He said, "The men fled from the battle. Many of them fell and died. And Saul and his son Jonathan are dead."
God was transitioning leadership out of Israel, from wicked, rebellious King Saul, to a man after His own heart, David. David was not allowed to fight against Saul in the battle that would take Saul out. Yet, God would position David for the thrown on His own, and David simply needed to obey God's orders.
David was an avid COMPASS GUIDE follower. He had heard from God, had been anointed by God to be the King over Judah, and he held on to that promise even when times looked hopeless. And right when it seemed that David was close to reaching God's dream for his life, God would turn him away from the battle and not allow him to fight it. David obeyed and left the fight under command. What happened next is that God Himself took King Saul off the planet in a fierce battle, which made a way for David to come into his rightful, God anointed position!
As COMPASS GUIDE students, we must all dream, write down the vision, push the vision, work the vision, and seize our opportunities. But there are times, just as this Bible example indicates, where God wants to install you into His dream without your direct help. It's important to be a hard worker, to focus, and to do all you know to build and fulfill God's dream in your life. But on occasion, God will have you sit a battle out and He will fight it for you, making away to install you into your DREAM!
If you hear the command of God to sit out a certain battle, or to stop and rest in Him, or to trust Him in a very specific way, for a very specific purpose, it's probable that God Himself is going to deliver you up to a new dimension, a new level, and a new opportunity. These are exciting times when God Himself, filled with pleasure over your hard work and persistence, steps in and fulfills your dream Himself! This is the love and passion of your Heavenly Father!
This is also the second stream found in the garden of Eden, which in Hebrew means THE GIFT OF GOD! Don't expect a bow wrapped present every day from God, but when they do come, they are incredibly fulfilling and powerful to position you for greatness and increase! God loves you son, daughter! And He just might have you set the next battle out.
The battle belongs to the Lord.
2 Chronicles 20:15-17 (NIV) 15 He said: "Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the LORD says to you: 'Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's. 16 Tomorrow march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the gorge in the Desert of Jeruel. 17 You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.'"
