6-Jul 2 Chron. 21-22, Acts 13-14, Psalms 31-35, Proverbs 6
2 Chron 21:12-15 (NIV) 12 Jehoram received a letter from Elijah the prophet, which said: "This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: 'You have not walked in the ways of your father Jehoshaphat or of Asa king of Judah. 13 But you have walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and you have led Judah and the people of Jerusalem to prostitute themselves, just as the house of Ahab did. You have also murdered your own brothers, members of your father's house, men who were better than you. 14 So now the Lord is about to strike your people, your sons, your wives and everything that is yours, with a heavy blow. 15 You yourself will be very ill with a lingering disease of the bowels, until the disease causes your bowels to come out.'"
It's not good to get a letter like this from the prophet Elijah! This young man was so wicked that God had to remind himself NOT to kill the whole nation because of His promise to King David to extend his throne. Even the progression of Jesus Christ was in question because of this rebellious son of Jehoshaphat. If God would have destroyed the whole thing, Jesus Christ would not have come forward in His lineage. But because God remembered His covenant, he didn't wipe the whole thing out. BUT . . .
You don't get to sit in the lineage of your forefathers, enjoy the Kingdom of God, and live like the devil. Even though God has promised a great thing through you, your family, your nation, or your generation, He can sure extract YOU from the story like a cancer cut out of a patient. This is exactly what He did with wicked king Jehoram.
Jehoram put all of his brothers to the sword, more than likely to secure his position on the throne. He had a real identity complex, even as first born son/king of his father. He caused the Israelites to prostitute themselves with other gods and he basically lived like the devil. Therefore God caused enemy nations to raise up against him and they dragged off his sons, daughters, family members and all of his gold and silver. God then gave him such a disease of the bowels that he died a wretched, painful death where his bowels literally came out of his body. What a horrible way to die! And with no pain medication available? YIKES!
What comes around goes around!
What you reap what you sow!
God is not mocked, and He will not allow evil to prosper forever.
Knowing this, what sort of lives should we live? We should strive to live a holy life before God and to pursue His dream in all humility and honor. We should never mistreat another, nor should we sow wicked seed into the earth in any way. We should warn everyone of the consequences of sowing wrong seed, and stand with God in all things.
How quickly a nation can fall under the sword and judgment of God! Jehoshaphat invoked God's kingdom blessing. But his son invoked the enemies to completely strip the nation bare and then his son died a most horrible death!

The lesson for the day is: GOD IS NOT MOCKED! Let our lives be filled with God's grace, and let them NOT be lives of mockery, rebellion, and dishonor.
