Proverbs 18:21 (NIV) 21  The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Your tongue is one of the most powerful weapons for good or evil. Why? Because the tongue is the interface between Heaven and earth or between earth and hell.  The tongue opens doors for unseen forces. It commissions agents of good or demons from hell.  It is the earthly expression of your inward faith or fear, love or hatred.  The tongue is the interface.

Proverbs 18:6-8 (NIV) 6  A fool's lips bring him strife, and his mouth invites a beating. 7  A fool's mouth is his undoing, and his lips are a snare to his soul. 8  The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man's inmost parts.

Fools have no vision, no goals and no real revelation of God's will in their lives. Therefore their tongues flap wildly, opening the gates of hell all around them.  Their own human interests, fears and turmoil proceed out of their mouths. They spew violence, pride, arrogance, anger and resentment.  They make a total mess of their lives, including anyone who hangs closely around them.  This is why they are labeled as FOOLS.

James talks in detail about the tongue.  A huge horse is turned by his mouth.  A huge ship is turned by the little rudder at the back side.  And a huge life and calling is turned by a tongue under restraint.

James 3:3-12 (NIV) 3  When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4  Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5  Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6  The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. 7  All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, 8  but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9  With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. 10  Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. 11  Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12  My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

If we could ever get our tongues under control of the Holy Spirit, we could direct our lives, our futures and our goals/dreams in the proper direction towards success.  This is why it's vital that we have our goals and dreams written down and we follow them daily.  A man talks about the things he's dreaming of.  A person follows the things that come out of his mouth. A person builds their world around whatever is coming out of the mouths of their friends, co workers and family members.  Our words are building worlds, vision, ideas, passions and dreams.

Take possession of your tongue today and make a commitment before God that you will NEVER utter anything that's detrimental to your calling, your dreams and the vision that God has given you.  Be like Jesus who said:

John 12:49 (NIV) 49  For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it.   king king king
