31-Aug Isaiah 5-6, Hebrews 7-8, Psalms 11-15, Proverbs 31

Proverbs 31:1-3 (MSG) The words of King Lemuel, the strong advice his mother gave him:  "Oh, son of mine, what can you be thinking of! Child whom I bore! The son I dedicated to God!  Don't dissipate your virility on fortune-hunting women, promiscuous women who shipwreck leaders.

I have always been told to stay away from the three G's: Girls, Gold and Glory.  These three killers will spiral you out of your divine purpose and take you down very costly paths of poverty and shame.  (Girls, you may change the "Girls" to "Guys" for your three G's.)

Today's Proverb has Solomon's mother telling him to stay away from fortune hunting, promiscuous, gold digging women who have the capacity to shipwreck a leader who's eye, attention and heart they can capture. "G #1: GIRLS".

Proverbs 31 talks about two diametrically opposed women. The first one will destroy you, but the second one will bring honor and praise at the city gates and her works will speak louder than her external beauty.  What's more, Solomon's mother reminds him that his youthful strength must stay directed on topics and issues of the kingdom, not on the potential deceptiveness of beautiful and charming women (Proverbs 31:30).  Rather, this strength, energy and even a strong sex drive needs to be focused on kingdom building and seizure of the dream that God has given you.

vi·ril·i·ty - vəˈrilədē/Submit - noun (in a man) the quality of having strength, energy, and a strong sex drive; manliness. "aggression and virility were highly prized in soldiers"

Undoubtedly a young man and even women have powerful emotions and sex drives when they are young.  These powerful drives, if not kept in check, can be the downfall and ruin of the king/queen inside of you.  People are led astray easily by unchecked sex drives.  The sex and virility drive can be so powerful inside of a young man or woman that they can feel a total sense of being out of control.

Adam and Eve experienced this uncontrolled and unchecked sense as they were both tempted in the garden. (Gen. 3:6)  Adam and Eve's temptation was the "Three G's temptation as she considered the fruit beautiful (gold), good for food (girls/guys) and highly desirable to make her wise (glory).  She was charmed and deceived by those three Gs, but Adam was not. He was just out of control and wanted it all, knowing full well what would happen if he took ahold of the fruit.  Their lack of self control and Eve's deception would be their ruin, extracted and banished from the garden of God, nullifying and giving up the dream of God for their lives forever.   Yikes!

So here we are today, and the Proverbs command us to stay away from the three G's.  But they are so charming, so beautiful and so deceptive. How do we navigate away from them and protect ourselves?

The key is SELF CONTROL, the hardest, most mis-understood and hated word by the natural man. Look at a few key scriptures say about the lack of self control:

Proverbs 25:28 (NIV)  Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.
Proverbs 16:32 (MSG)  Moderation is better than muscle, self-control better than political power.
Proverbs 25:28 (MSG)  A person without self-control is like a house with its doors and windows knocked out.

The Apostle Paul understood sexual drive and the lack of self control.  In the days of Jesus, people got married much earlier in life than today's typical 18 - 30 year old. They were able to operate in the bond of marriage to combat the human lack of self control.

1 Corinthians 7:3-5 (GW)  Husbands and wives should satisfy each other's {sexual} needs.  A wife doesn't have authority over her own body, but her husband does. In the same way, a husband doesn't have authority over his own body, but his wife does.  Don't withhold yourselves from each other unless you agree to do so for a set time to devote yourselves to prayer. Then you should get back together so that Satan doesn't use your lack of self-control to tempt you.

Today's young people think of graduating high school, then a 4 year college degree, then, then, then.... and marriage is way down the line. Therefore it's hard to wrestle and combat the lack of self control regarding sex and the powerful sex drive that comes with youth.  So many give in repeatedly to the powerful temptations of sex. It's so blatant that kids abandon their faith to give in to the temptations of sex and the three Gs. It's quite common to move in together years before a marriage commitment (if ever making that commitment). This giving up and giving in to G #1 (girls/guys) will shipwreck your life, future and the dream that God has for you.  It simply cannot mix with a true relationship with God.  I won't get into the twisted offshoots that come from this moral failure, resulting in LBGT - Q, R, S, T, and more to come as man digresses further into immoral slavery.

Now we've heard the low down and the hard stuff.  But how can we keep ourselves pure and free from these powerful waves of human desire?

Death to self. Daily dying to self. The power of the cross. The renewed life. And THE POWER OF THE LIFE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT LIVING INSIDE OF YOU!  Just imagine if you were driven by another life form that was inside of you? The very life of God. A new Spirit and foundation of life. A personal Holy Spirit that lives in you, and fills you, and overflows from deep within you.  This is THE ONE AND ONLY KEY!

This life is available to you. His life and power are freely given to you. But you must find it, ask and beg Him for it. Embrace Him when He comes.  Sell out everything for Him.  And He will fill you, lead you, protect you and guide you.  He will change everything and give you POWER in every area of your life.  It's called the infilling and baptism of the Holy Spirit.

When you receive Him into your life in this manner, He will begin to work in many ways. He will walk you through forgiveness of the past. He will help you to understand your old nature that used to run the show and bind you up into sin. He will show you how to combat the powerful three Gs in your life (and everyone has these temptations, so don't feel alone!).  He will give you the power to overcome!

Galatians 5:22-25 (NIV)  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.  Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.  Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

This is the key at the end of the day.  Your powerful temptations and lusts are a clear reminder of how much you need Jesus and the power of His Holy Spirit in your life.  They are a stark reality that we must be walking in step with God daily, and we must be uniting with Him in life and purpose.  It's not good enough to hear from Him on Sunday. We have a life to live Monday through Sunday and He must direct every step of the way. We need Him to walk with us and guide us in every moment, every decision and whenever any of the three G temptations come.  He will always provide an answer and a way of escape. He will provide something that is not available anywhere else in the world: THE SPIRIT OF SELF CONTROL!  He IS the self control that you need.

Galatians 5:16 (KJV)  This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Godly leaders in the land of all walks must walk in the integrity of self control.

Titus 1:8 (GW)  Instead, he must be hospitable, love what is good, use good judgment, be fair and moral, and have self-control.

As you experience the temptations of the three G's, let these temptations remind you that:
1. You are just like every other human being who struggles with various degrees of these three temptations, just like Adam and Eve did.
2. There is no way to effectively combat these powerful temptations of your youth other than through an act of kindness by God, who will give you the comforter, His Holy Spirit who will deliver and save you from these temptations.
3. There is absolute forgiveness in Jesus for any moral failure in your past, and the powerful, living Holy Spirit is ready to invade and fill your life with such a presence and power that you will walk with Him, rather than Him walking with you.
4. He will train you how to walk with Him and to keep in step with Him, staying away from the temptations of the three G's.

I pray today that we will receive great hope and a faith to receive the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit today, after reading this exhortation.  Holy Spirit, I ask you to invade our hearts, minds and bodies of our human being. Fill us. Overflow us. Take charge, and take your seat as Lord, Master, Instructor, Teacher, Mentor and Spiritual Father. We humble ourselves and commit to learn and listen to you. Lead and guide our every step along the way, Monday - Sunday.  Give us your power, and your love, and your sound mind, that we can walk in the Spirit of self control.  Thank you Lord. We receive you in fullness, in Jesus living name.

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Take a moment now and stop everything. Close your eyes in a moment and worship Him. Receive a fresh and renewing flood of His Holy Spirit into your heart, mind and body.  He will come and empower you to live the powerful, indestructible life that He has for you!

Blessings to you and your future in Him!  You are a king/queen in His Kingdom and he delights in giving good gifts to you!  king king king

Luke 11:13 (NIV)   .......... how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"
