Can a man be a benefit to God? There is only one way possible, and it's not going to be the answer that your flesh wants to hear.  To benefit God, you must walk in peace with Him, and submit to Him.

Today's Reading: 8-Aug Job 21-22, Galatians 5-6, Psalms 46-50, Proverbs 8

Job 22:21-30 (NIV)  "Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you. Accept instruction from his mouth and lay up his words in your heart. If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored: If you remove wickedness far from your tent  and assign your nuggets to the dust, your gold of Ophir to the rocks in the ravines,  then the Almighty will be your gold, the choicest silver for you.  Surely then you will find delight in the Almighty and will lift up your face to God.  You will pray to him, and he will hear you, and you will fulfill your vows.  What you decide on will be done, and light will shine on your ways.  When men are brought low and you say, 'Lift them up!' then he will save the downcast.  He will deliver even one who is not innocent, who will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands."

This chapter of scripture begins with:  Job 22:2 (NIV)  "Can a man be of benefit to God? Can even a wise man benefit him?

Is it possible that man can be a benefit to God?  Considering the massive fall of mankind from Heaven to earth and the "dust to dust" sentence upon him, it is not possible that man could be a benefit or an asset to God.  Yet in light of God sending His one and only Son Jesus to die on the horrid cross of Calvary, in order that God may redeem mankind from the "dust of death", it is highly likely that man CAN benefit God in some way.  But not in the old natural way of living and thinking.  The way to benefit God would be to stand with Him, intercede for others, and bring God's goodness to others, spending your life to benefit God.  This most definitely goes against the American dream, which is to benefit self and family, and to build a barn big enough to house all of your prized possessions acquired during a selfish life on earth.

Job 22 declares that we can benefit God by submitting to Him and being at peace with Him.  How do we be at peace with God?  We must leave the life of the flesh (the old, cut off, selfish life) and begin to walk with God in the Spirit.  This is the same walk that Adam walked before his great fall in the garden.

Life in the flesh is an enemy of God, and there is no peace when we walk in the flesh, in the futility of our own minds, attitudes, and demands on life.

1 Corinthians 15:50 (NIV)  I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

Romans 8:8-9 (KJV)  So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.   But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Romans 8:1 (KJV)  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

We MUST learn what walking in the flesh looks like, as well as walking in the Spirit.  Walking in the Spirit means saying NO to our own personal desires, and saying YES to God's personal desires.  It means acknowledging that God has a plan which is not our plan, and choosing to serve His plan, even if it means that we must suffer to carry out that plan. Anything for my Lord and Savior! Anything for my king!

1 Peter 4:1-3 (NIV) 1  Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin. 2  As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.  3  For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do--living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.

Are you willing to suffer for the plan of God to be fulfilled in your life?  Are you willing to "give up", to "throw your hands in the air in surrender" and give God all of your mind, strength, and energy so that you can fulfill His plan?  If not, I'm sorry to say that you will be of no benefit to God on the earth at all.  And you will not live in true peace with God on the earth if you are of no benefit or value to Him.  You may sing to Jesus on Sunday, but you will not be of any value or benefit to the Kingdom of God.  Sadly, too many Christians are of no value to God because they refuse to give up their life of flesh, lust, and personal desire in order to fulfill the will of the kingdom of God.  Imagine, a Christian being of no value to God, and actually being an enemy of God because they walk in the flesh rather than in the Spirit!

Philippians 3:18-19 (NIV) For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things.

DO NOT let this be your story!  Come to God, be at peace with Him, walk with Him, suffer for Him if necessary, and say NO to your own actions, desires, plans, and purposes.  This is the only way that a man or woman can be a benefit to the kingdom of God. Adam benefitted God as he walked with God in the Spirit, and he walked in the image that God had created him in (son, king, servant, royalty, connection, dna, spirit). This is your opportunity now, through the life of Jesus Christ who has put your old life of flesh, sin and death on the cross, and has raised you from the dead to a new life in Christ. The work is done. It's now our decision to acknowledge, embrace, and walk this out, and make true on the earth what is already true in Heaven.
