28-May 1 Kings 15-16, Matthew 25-26, Psalms 136-140, Proverbs 28

1 Kings 16:29-34 (NIV) 29 In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab son of Omri became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria over Israel twenty-two years. 30 Ahab son of Omri did more evil in the eyes of the Lord than any of those before him. 31 He not only considered it trivial to commit the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, but he also married Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and began to serve Baal and worship him. 32 He set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal that he built in Samaria. 33 Ahab also made an Asherah pole and did more to provoke the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger than did all the kings of Israel before him. 34 In Ahab's time, Hiel of Bethel rebuilt Jericho. He laid its foundations at the cost of his firstborn son Abiram, and he set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, in accordance with the word of the Lord spoken by Joshua son of Nun.

When a nation degenerates and spirals downward under the deceptions and penalties of sin, darkness, failure, and self will, leaders begin to appear that are very detrimental to the success of that nation. The last two chapters of Kings (15 and 16) are filled with short lived kings who reigned for just a few years and did more evil in the site of the Lord than the last king. They propelled the evil and paid for it with their lives. Power is an interesting thing. The saying goes, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely corrupts." We see this played out in history of the kings of Israel. And we finally land on King Ahab who was absolutely fine with violating all that his office demanded. Not only was he more evil than the kings before him, but he married wicked Jezebel and made her queen over the land. Now here's a set of leaders for you, and Jezebel is about to give him a lesson in satan worship. And to top it off, he oversaw the rebuilding of Jericho, the city that God had commanded not to rebuild. The man who took charge of the rebuilding program saw his own youngest son killed, just as declared by Joshua in the day it was destroyed. And while all of these things were going on, Elijah the prophet was sitting in position. He was not being utilized by the high offices as they had no regard for the Lord or His will. But Elijah would certainly be implemented by God in another way.

When will the madness end when it comes to downward spiraling, out of control, wicked leaders? Mercy and time is given by God, but eventually, a nation's sin and decisions made by the leaders will lead to catastrophic downfall. And in the midst of this downfall, God will begin to raise up PROPHETS before He anoints a JEHU.

Today, many believers (followers of Christ) are watching the nations spin out of control with wickedness and evil in leadership minds, decisions, and intentions. Each day seems to get more wicked and evil as time moves forward, seemingly without remedy. And many believers are finding that their gifts and callings are no longer being called upon or seemingly needed by the public around them, or public leaders who used to call out for the wisdom of God and the Holy Bible. Just as Elijah was not called on, so God's people are not being called upon today, around the world.

Cyclical human history repeats itself over and over, because we REFUSE to learn from it. But you and I can learn from Biblical, cyclical history. We understand that as nations spiral downward out of control, that drought, famine, attack by bands of raiders, and poverty is on the way. These troubles come because the Word of God is no longer needed, sought out, accepted, or entertained. These things MUST happen IF God is the true creator, and if the Word of God is true. History says that the day will come when Elijah's will be fed by ravens from the kings table, and will drink from a brook that God provides. The Word of God can literally take a vacation from a troubled area until the famine, drought, and trouble works it's course in that nation. Remember when Elijah told wicked King Ahab that it wouldn't rain again until he said it would rain? From that point onward, God sent his man on vacation as the Word of the Lord would no longer be needed in that nation until the drought/famine had run it's course. When Elijah departed to the Brook Cherith - it was a horrible day for Israel. But Israel wouldn't know it was a horrible day, because they didn't believe in God, His judgments, or His prophets any longer. They would only find out how horrible that day was - at a later time when their tongues were sticking to the roofs of their mouths.

You and I represent Elijah of that day. We are the messengers of God's Word. The good news is that Jesus Christ has paid a horrible price for the sins of man, and redemption is available to anyone who turns to Christ to be saved. It's not necessary for an entire nation to go down into pain, shame and death just because the nation's leaders are corrupt. Calling out to Jesus and choosing to follow Him at all costs will give a person a pathway to freedom, protection and prosperity.

You and I, as the Elijah's of the day, must be ready to help people get to Jesus. But the way to Christ, the truth, and to true life is narrow. The line in the sand is clear. The rules for life are given by God and are not disputable. As times get tough and wicked rulers become more wicked, the QUALITY of salvation will become increasingly more beautiful as people fully dedicate themselves to Jesus Christ, under His rules and demands. When a man is dying of hunger or thirst, he will fully humble himself and fully submit to the Lord and the narrow path.

Friends, we are coming to a day in our world where great drought, famine, bands of raiders, and the general theme of Isaiah 3 will come upon a significant group of people around the world. Trouble has come at the very hand of Satan himself. But we must be prepared, armed as evangelists, to lead people to Christ. We must know and walk the narrow road, and we must declare that narrow road in order to correctly preach the word of truth. And when men actually choose to follow that narrow road, the decision will be one of great quality and absolute commitment. We are coming to the day where we no longer feel that we need to convince the people to "please" come to Jesus, as we sing one more stanza of "Just as I am" . . . Please!! We are coming to a day where those who are desperate for Christ's care will literally find us, or will attract us to them, as they say, "Please - show me the way to eternal life and relief from my earthly burdens of sin, darkness, and being disconnected from almighty God!".

Prepare your heart, your family, business, and church for CLARITY like never before. When people begin to return to the Lord, they will need to know EXACTLY where the lines of God are located. If they're going to return, they must return WITHIN the lines of the Kingdom, safety, life, etc. A half hearted return is not a return to God. Returning partly will only fuel the fires of trouble and famine further - just as the kings of history did some good, but refused to deal with the high places of false worship.

Prepare - for the times of harvest are plentiful and are NOW! sunny cheers sunny
