5-May 1 Sam. 25-26, Revelations 1-2, Psalms 21-25, Proverbs 5

1 Sam 25:10-13 (NIV) 10 Nabal answered David's servants, "Who is this David? Who is this son of Jesse? Many servants are breaking away from their masters these days. 11 Why should I take my bread and water, and the meat I have slaughtered for my shearers, and give it to men coming from who knows where?" 12 David's men turned around and went back. When they arrived, they reported every word. 13 David said to his men, "Put on your swords!" So they put on their swords, and David put on his. About four hundred men went up with David, while two hundred stayed with the supplies.

Worthless Nabal had an opportunity to help David with some food to feed his men, after David had protected him and his flocks from strong enemies. But Nabal was unthankful and would forget David's good towards him. When it came time to simply help David to feed his men, Nabal would not give anything of his vast wealth to help.

While David rode towards Nabal with 400 men and swords, Nabal's intelligent wife met him with food and gifts. She apologized for her husband's stupidity and David graciously accepted her offering, turning back his men and their swords. Nabal was drunk and had no idea that she had done this thing. If she had not, David would have destroyed all of his wealth and his entire family for his ungrateful heart, unthankfulness, and his "quick to forget" attitude concerning David's protection over his life and wealth.

Nabal's wife told him what she had done after he came out of his drunken stupor. His heart failed him and he died! Then David asked her to be his wife, and she moved on up to a new level of living! From a fool for a husband to a king!

It's important that we look back frequently and honor what God has done in our lives. Has He protected you? Has he blessed you with riches, a great job, or an excellent family? It's right to give thanks to the Lord, and to honor His servants to help keep them moving forward. Don't be like the fool Nabal who forgot about David's protection as he built his wealth into great riches. Nabal would lose his life and all of his riches would go to another man, simply because he was selfish, unthankful, and his attitude rendered him WORTHLESS!

Take a moment right now and reflect on what God has done to bless and benefit you through your past. Consider an offering to Him of some sort - an offering of thanksgiving and honor, showing appreciation for all that He has done to rescue you, and to bring you into a good and prosperous land. Offering the right gifts to the king could cause you to move up in stature, just like Abigail, Nabal's wife, from wife of a fool, to wife of a king!
