06/27 Compass Guide Comments By Dr. Daniel Daves

27-Jun 2 Chronicles 3-4, John 17-18, Psalms 136-140, Proverbs 27

2 Chron 4:18-22 (NIV)18 All these things that Solomon made amounted to so much that the weight of the bronze was not determined. 19 Solomon also made all the furnishings that were in God's temple: the golden altar; the tables on which was the bread of the Presence; 20 the lampstands of pure gold with their lamps, to burn in front of the inner sanctuary as prescribed; 21 the gold floral work and lamps and tongs (they were solid gold); 22 the pure gold wick trimmers, sprinkling bowls, dishes and censers; and the gold doors of the temple: the inner doors to the Most Holy Place and the doors of the main hall.

Yesterday God asked Solomon the defining question which would determine his future.  Today, Solomon uses the massive riches and wealth that God gave him to build the temple.  He spared no expense in making the temple fit for THE KING.  There was so much bronze used that they stopped weighing it.  Everything inside was made of pure gold, instead of adding 10% cheaper metals.

When people make plans for building, the first thing that comes to mind is how we can reduce expenses.  Use a cheaper wood for the house. make the road a foot thinner and we will save 10%.  Cut, trim, change materials - we do this as part of our engineering and reasoning process when building things.  This is based in SAVING and PROFITABILITY.  If we can cut costs, it's only reasonable and it brings profitability.  This is something that God teaches us through His Word.

However, when it comes to building God's house, we MUST forsake the mode of cutting, trimming, and using cheaper materials.  We must spare no expense in making sure the house is pure gold, built with the best and most expensive materials.  We cannot think PROFITABILITY and SAVING when building God's house!

1 Cor 3:16 (NIV) 16 Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?
Because you are the house of God, you cannot spare expense when building, caring and maintaining His house.  If this means that you eat the more expensive, right food to keep you healthy, then you are AUTHORIZED.  If this means that you get the very best schooling and education for your future that money can buy, then you are AUTHORIZED.  If this means that you spend much extra time with your relationships, your spouse, your children, then you are AUTHORIZED.  Spare no expense.  Ask God for the materials that you need to build in excellence.  He will give you the materials if you answer His question correctly.  (Read yesterday's forum post to get the question and the correct answer, 06/26/13 post)

1. Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength.
2. Love your neighbor as you love yourself.

Spare NO EXPENSE when it comes to these two top commands that Jesus gives us.  And remember that you can only love your neighbor as much as you love yourself, but no more.  Do you have trouble loving your neighbor? Maybe it's because you don't love yourself.  And if you don't love yourself, you may have an identity crisis that you need to overcome.  The Word of God says that you are the temple of the Holy Spirit.  If you can ever identify with that, then you will be able to love yourself the way that God loves you. Once you come to this understanding, you will be able to love your neighbor with the same sort of great love that God has for you!
You are AUTHORIZED to spare no expense in building the temple of the Lord!  I love you Very Happy king
