04/29 Thoughts & Comments By Dr. Daniel Daves
29-Apr 1 Sam. 13-14 2 Peter 3 Psalms 141-145 Proverbs 29
1 Samuel 13:19-22 NIV [19] Not a blacksmith could be found in the whole land of Israel, because the Philistines had said, “Otherwise the Hebrews will make swords or spears! ” [20] So all Israel went down to the Philistines to have their plow points, mattocks, axes and sickles sharpened. [21] The price was two-thirds of a shekel for sharpening plow points and mattocks, and a third of a shekel for sharpening forks and axes and for repointing goads. [22] So on the day of the battle not a soldier with Saul and Jonathan had a sword or spear in his hand; only Saul and his son Jonathan had them.
The scripture shows a day where weapons control had been acted upon the Israelites by the Philistines. Whenever your enemy is making a move against you, he will enact laws to disarm you so that you cannot take up arms against him.
Whenever a nation enacts gun control laws to keep firearms, swords, or any other kind of weapon out of the reach of citizens, that nation is moving outside of the authority that the people have given them. Philistines took swords from Israelites. And the Philistine spirit wants your guns, knives, and swords today.
I Samuel shows clearly that disarming of the people of a land is for government control which is not for the benefit of the people. Israel would rise up and throw the Philistines off of them. Other nations will also rise up and throw the Philistine spirit off in this day and age also.
As a believer, you can never stand for disarming of your own citizenry without suffering the consequences of Israel under Philistine control. This is a hotly contested subject in the political world these days. However, the subject is not an issue of politics, but of national security and right of people to defend themselves against criminals and government tyranny.
